Press rn Release from Xantrex Technology Inc.
August 22, 2006
Vancouver, B.C. Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX) installed its new rn Hybrid Power System combined with solar power on the Xeni Gwet”in rn First Nation near Chilko Lake, British Columbia. This remote site rn is located in the Chilcotin area of central B.C., more than three rn hours from the nearest urban center, with no access to the provincial rn electricity grid.
“This system is a state-of-the-art off-grid electricity supply.”
– John Wallace, Xantrex CEO.
The Xantrex Hybrid Power System is well-suited to supply electricity rn to homes in remote areas. Similar to hybrid cars, the Xantrex Hybrid rn Power system integrates advanced power electronics, a battery bank, rn and a generator into a single system providing enough electricity rn to power an average household.
rn
The Xantrex Hybrid Power System can work efficiently with renewable rn energy sources such as solar power, micro-hydro power systems and rn small-scale wind generators to produce electricity for use in the rn home immediately or stored in the batteries for later use. The advanced rn features of this system include real-time satellite data monitoring, rn automatic battery conditioning, battery temperature management, and rn optimal generator fuel consumption. The system also offers comprehensive rn data logging and advanced partial state of charge operation.
rn
The Xantrex Hybrid Power System provides users with a cleaner and rn more efficient electricity system than continuously running a combustion rn generator. When combined with a solar array, the home runs off solar rn energy during the day and stores excess energy generated from the rn solar panels in the battery bank. At night or when the house electricity rn demand is high, the power comes from stored energy in the battery rn and if required, the system automatically starts the generator and rn seamlessly combines the electricity from these sources. When the battery rn bank is depleted, the generator automatically turns on and runs efficiently rn to recharge the batteries. The Xantrex Hybrid Power System is easy rn to operate and was developed to minimize generator run time, thus rn saving fuel and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
rn
“This system is a state-of-the-art off-grid electricity supply,” rn said John Wallace, Xantrex CEO. “It”s small, quiet, convenient, rn cost effective and a tremendous improvement over the existing combustion rn generator that runs continuously. The Xantrex Hybrid Power System rn has great potential for powering remote off-grid residential and commercial rn sites.”
rn
“We are extremely happy with the Xantrex system,” said rn George Colgate, Manager of Xeni Gwet”in Enterprise, which provides rn technical and construction services to the First Nation. “It rn reduces generator fuel consumption and increases reliability while rn reducing harmful greenhouse gases. We look forward to eventually installing rn these systems on 30 other houses in the area.”
rn
The demonstration project is being funded by Xantrex and the Canadian rn government”s Technology Early Action Measures (TEAM) program. TEAM rn is an interdepartmental technology investment program that supports rn projects designed to demonstrate technologies that mitigate greenhouse rn gas (GHG) emissions nationally and internationally, and that sustain rn economic and social development.
