How SunMaxx Solar Pool Heaters Work
Solar Pool Heaters are among the simplest of all Solar Hot Water Systems to design. There is no need to use a storage tank, as the pool itself serves as the storage tank for the heated water. There are also a number of different ways that you can design a Solar Pool Heater System in order to make it function properly.
rn
With low-heat Solar Pool Heaters, such as FAFCO Solar Pool Heaters, you can have a direct or Open-Loop System, where the water from the pool is heated directly within the Solar Collectors and returned to the pool. This is a great option in climates where FAFCO Unglazed Solar Pool Heaters are adequate, such as the Southern and Southwest United States, and many warm climates around the world. The significant advantage of an Open-Loop Solar Pool Heater is that there is no need for a Heat Exchanger, which can add several hundred dollars to the cost of your Solar Pool Heater.
rn
When using SunMaxx Solar Pool Heaters that use either SunMaxx-FP Flat Plate of SunMaxx Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors, it is advisable to use a Closed-Loop or Indirect Solar Pool Heating System. In this type of System, water, or a water-glycol solution is heated in the Solar Collectors, and the heat is transferred to the pool water indirectly through a Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger. An Indirect Solar Pool Heating System is a great choice for Northern, colder climates where freezing may damage, or freeze Solar Pool Heaters without a Glycol Solution for the Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF).
rn
Closed Loop Systems
SunMaxx Solar Pool Heaters designed with SunMaxx Flat Plate and Evacuated Tube Solar Collectors are designed to be installed and operated using closed-loop systems. The diagram Above shows the typical layout and components of a Closed Loop Solar Pool Heater using a SunMaxx Solar Pool Heater Kit.
rn
Common Components:
rn
rn A. Solar Collectors rn | rn F. Solar Loop Circulator Pump rn | rn J. Hot H2O from Solar Collectors rn |
---|---|---|
rn B. Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger rn | rn G. Back Up Heater (optional) rn | rn K. Cold H2O to Solar Collectors rn |
rn C. Actuator & 3-Way Valve rn | rn H. Pool Filter rn | rn L. H2O from Pool (to be Heated) rn |
rn D. Automatic Controller rn | rn I. Pool Pump rn | rn M. H2O to Pool (Heated) rn |
rn E. Pool Timer rn |
rn
Closed Loop Solar Pool Heating Systems are extremely efficient, and can be installed in a single by a trained professional. Additionally, because of the additional efficiency and seasons of performance due to the Glycol Solution, they are incredibly cost-effective.
