Does using solar energy or using solar products help increase the national energy security of the US?
A big Yes! The Department of Education calls the amount the US produces their own oil, Field Production. Statistics have shown that the total percentage of field production in the US will decrease and the total percentage of dependence on oil imports will increase in the years to come. For example in the year 2000 the US had in Field Production only about 35 percent of its oil, but 5 years later the number has decreased to 28 percent. Along with this rate, the percentage of our country’s dependence on oil imports is increasing. How frightening! As the US decreases in Field Production the more it depends on imports from other countries for its fossil fuels. This phenomenon lowers our national energy security as we grow more dependent on other countries for fossil fuels and as we decrease in our Field Production.
Each one of us can take small steps to increase our country’s national energy security by turning to renewable energy sources. Solar energy is one of many great renewable energy source alternatives. Solar energy is not only a good alternative renewable energy source because it decreases our country’s dependence on imports of fossil fuels from other countries, but as Steven Wright an employee at Whirlwind Steel Buildings Inc. shares with us, some of the amazing benefits of individuals turning to solar energy is less control on the individual by their public utility services, geopolitical benefits, decreasing impacts on the environment, financial incentives for the solar energy using individual by the federal government and it provides more jobs for US citizens, as more individuals choose to integrate into their lives using renewable energy resources like solar energy, wind energy, tidal power, wave power, geothermal power, and biomass power, just to name a few.
There is a wise saying that I like, yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why it is called “The Present!” There is so much good that can come from an individual choosing to turn to renewable energy resources like solar power. Today is a gift, the choices we choose to make is the gift that we have. God willing, let us make the best choices for the good of others, our society and our environment!
