Common Questions for Solar Lights
How big of a solar panel do I need?
The solar panel size depends on the location where you will be installing your solar lights and how much energy the LED bulbs are using. In many cases, having a very large LED can cause low performance of your solar light (as the solar panel can’t charge the battery fast enough).
What types of batteries are best?
Depends. Today, 90% of the solar lights on the market are designed to use the minimum size battery to delivery minimum results. Does that seem correct? Yep. Many Chinese / importers just offer the lowest cost solar lights which are engineered to deliver the minimum results.
So what does this have to do with the batteries? Incorrectly sizing a battery can cause a solar light to last for <12 months… How? Its simple. If you empty your batteries too fast, the lifespan is reduced. Properly engineered solar lights (regardless of battery technology) should last a minimum of 3-5 years.
What are the differences between solar LEDs?
The large variety and changing LED technology makes it hard to follow which technology is best. We believe sticking with proven technology is the best way when looking at LED lighting. This means choose solar lights with the name-brand LED chips. Why? 1/100 LED light manufacturing companies remain in business after 2 years.
What fails on solar lights?
Batteries and solar panels. Why the batteries? As mentioned above, undersized batteries will result in low battery lifespan (regardless of the technology). Solar panels – budget solar panels will produce 50% of their power after 12 months. Its important to work with a company which has solar lights in service for 5+ years. How do we know this? We’ve been making solar lights for 20 years.
