There are two different kinds of solar pumps you can buy depending on your specific needs. An aerator pump moves air throughout your pond, and the water pump creates water flow in your pond by moving the water itself. No matter which pump you purchase, the solar panels work the same. The attached solar panels either charge a battery (which then runs the pump) or power the pump directly.
Solar pond pumps with batteries can operate at night or on cloudy days because of the stored power in the battery, but a pump without battery can only operate when the solar panel is in direct sunlight.
