Automotive Solar Chargers |
An electric current produced by the solar panels maintains a high battery voltage in low duty cycle batteries (such as a car battery) by trickle charging. Battery maintainers are also ideal for vehicles that are used seasonally such as RVs.
What is trickle charging?
Trickle charging means that the battery is being charged by an external source at the same rate it is naturally discharging.
Maintaining a high voltage in your battery allows you to start your car easily even after it has been left standing for long periods of time. Preventing a battery from going through periods of low charge helps prolong its lifespan.
Why is it harmful for a battery to be stored without a full charge?
As a battery discharges the lead on its plates slowly becomes lead sulphate. This process is reversed when the battery is charged. If the lead sulphate is allowed to stay on the plates for a period of time it harden into a crystal form that cannot be recharged. When the battery \\\'sulfates\\\' its charging capacity is reduced.
