PROBLEM: Can you determine the heating rates of a water-filled evacuated tube solar collectors placed at different angles?

MATERIALS: 2 evacuated tubes, water, computer, logger pro software, 2 vernier thermocouples, cork stoppers, ring stands and clamps, small pieces of styrofoam. (Materials Not Included, we recommend using our Demo Collector listed below)

INTRODUCTION: This lab follows closely the procedures done in a standard “angle of insolation” earth science lab. We will be using the sun for our measurements and will need a window that is exposed to direct sunlight. This lab will run for several hours so it is important to pick a day when sunshine will be in abundance. The tubes will remain fixed and at very different angles. We will be looking to discover any major differences in how the water heats in each of the tubes over that several hour time frame.
