What wire gauge should I use for my system?

Additional wire may be required based on the customer’s specific placement of components. Using the proper wire gauge ensures that not only will the system be able to transfer energy without significant voltage loss, but also that the wires will not fail during operation due to overheating or melting. It is important to note that the most important wires to properly size will be the ones carrying the full power of the system, such as the wire leaving the combiner box that carries the full amperage of all the solar panels. These wires carry a much higher current than smaller individual panel wires and improper sizing can lead to voltage loss and wasted power at best, to a full system failure at worst. If unsure about the wire gauge being in between two listed sizes, always size up, as an oversized wire cannot hurt the system but an undersized wire can.
