What is a charge controller used for
Solution
A charge controller is recommended in any time that you are using a solar panel to charge a battery. A charge controller has 3 simple functions. It regulates the high voltage of a solar panel (which is always higher then the battery) down to a proper charging voltage, prevents discharge of the battery back into the panel when the panel is not producing power (at night), and prevents overcharging of the battery so that it does not ruin it.
