Cheap Solar Energy Storage Rods to Top off Any SHW System!
After a seven year investigation, a new Solar Energy Storage Rod was created and manufactured credited by Dow Chemical Co. and Pipe Systems, Inc. The rod consists of a special polyethylene pipe that has a phase-change material enclosed within the pipe. The phase-change material turns from a crystalline compound to a liquid compound and back into the crystalline state.
The pipes in size are about six feet long and 3.5 inches in diameter. Sealed within the pipe is crystalline melting compound that will turn into a liquid at 81 degrees F. This compound will absorb heat either from direct solar contact or from the collector that allows it to heat up and turn into the liquid. The liquid will slowly return to a crystalline state as the temperature falls at sundown. As the temperature drops and the compound returns to a crystalline state, it releases the heat it has stored. Priced at $30.00, these Solar Energy Storage Rods will top off any Solar Hot Water System-and at a cheap price too!
