The City of San Antonio launched a project from February 2012 – February 2013 on discussing multiple options for community solar programs. The funding of the program is more than $300 thousand. The members in sustainable energy advocacy groups in San Antonio included the Department of Energy Solar America Cities, American Solar Energy Society, Texas Solar Energy Society, etc. Also, the government of the City of San Antonio Cooperates with Bexar County and other organizations to develop the usage of solar energy in San Antonio, such as CPS Energy, Alamo Area Council of government, etc.

There are different rebates and incentives provided in Texas. Tax credits and rebates are available to property owners who upgrade or maintain renewable energy sources. Also, utility loans and rebates are also available for households in Texas.

Texas rebates are available through AEP SWEPCO, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, Austin Energy, Bryan Texas Utilities, Coserv, CPS Energy, El Paso Electric Company, Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, Oncor Electric Delivery, and Texas New Mexico Power Company. The amount of the rebates ranges from $1,750/kw to $2,500/kw.

A federal tax credit of 30% of cost with no upper limit is currently available for both solar photovoltaic and solar water heating systems.
