LED stands for light emitting diode. They use semiconductors just like solar panels in order to emit different colors of
light. Depending on the type of semiconductor that an LED is built with, the
emitted light can be in the infrared, visible, or near ultraviolet region of
the spectrum. LEDs are very common and are found in many electronics.
Some examples include traffic lights, remote
controls, computers, and other devices that switch on a light to show whether
or not the power is on, like the iSol. LEDs also have an advantage over
incandescent lighting in that LEDs produce more light per watt, which makes
them ideal for solar lighting.

Plus is an example of a sign light that uses LEDs.
