Charge Controllers. Charge controllers regulate the voltage and current passed from the solar panel to the batteries.

Charge Controllers regulate the voltage and current which are passed from the solar panel to the battery, batteries, or battery pack as the case may be. With Charge Controllers to regulate solar systems, the batteries may be damaged by excess voltage. The only solar systems with which Charge Controllers are not really necessary are ones containing a solar panel which produces a voltage considerably less than the capacity of the batteries.
