Australian Solar Energy: In Australia, the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target, or MRET, is administered by the Australian Federal government's Office of Renewable Energy Regulator, which is also known as ORER. ORER does not provide grants or rebates to companies or individuals, but rather, under MRET, renewable energy certificates (or RECs) may be available for some solar hot water installations and small installations of photovoltaic, wind or mini-hydro-electric systems. RECs may be traded (much like shares or money). The Australian Prime Minister introduced a rebate program in 2007 for certain kinds of renewable resources, which can be up to AUS$1,000 for solar water heater installations.

Rebates for Photovoltaic energy sources are also available in Australia. If you are interested, you should have a look at http://www.environment.gov.au/rebates/. The Australian Greenhouse Office, the Department of Environment and heritage, and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources are also great resources for information regarding solar energy grants or renewable energy power stations and for assistance with research and development projects. Direct incentives for Households, Community groups, Schools, Businesses, Research and development organizations, Local Governments and State Government Agencies are also available in Australia and all State and Territory governments have similar programs.
