The Austin City Council chartered the Local Solar Advisory Committee (LSAC) to examine and provide recommendations for Austin’s long-term goal for solar energy in April 2012. The City Council recently took positive steps to accelerate solar energy growth in Austin by approving a $7.5 million budget for solar in fiscal year 2013. There are many members in the committee, such as Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA), University of Texas, Northern Electrical Contractors Association, etc.

There are different rebates and incentives provided in Texas. Tax credits and rebates are available to property owners who upgrade or maintain renewable energy sources. Also, utility loan and rebate are also available for household in Texas.

Texas rebates available through AEP SWEPCO, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, Austin Energy, Bryan Texas Utilities, Coserv, CPS Energy, El Paso Electric Company, Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative, Oncor Electric Delivery, and Texas New Mexico Power Company. The amount of rebate starts from $1,750/kw to $2,500/kw.

 A federal tax credit of 30% of cost with no upper limit is currently available for both solar photovoltaic and solar water heating systems.
